As the European chlor-alkali market gradually emerges from recession, there remain a number of uncertainties.  Chlor-alkali demand has begun to recover from the low reached in 2009, but consumption remains below pre-recession levels.  The significant progress achieved by the pulp and paper industry is certainly encouraging, but it is premature to envisage a recovery across all sectors of demand.  Moreover, there is uncertainty about the outlook for chlorinated derivatives.

Chlor-alkali production has improved since the start of the year, but operating rates are low by historical standards.  Other key issues for the industry are price developments, ECU margins, import and export opportunities and, specifically for the European market, the mercury issue.

This new webinar by Harriman Chemsult will provide an in-depth analysis of the European chlor-alkali market, with a specific focus on supply/demand changes, pricing developments and the outlook for the industry.

Issues facing the industry will be discussed, including:

•    European chlor-alkali capacity and production in a global context
•    European chlor-alkali capacity by company
•    European chlor-alkali consumption by end use
•    Regional differences
•    Caustic soda price developments
•    The reasons for success or failure of price initiatives
•    Outlook and key issues for the future
•    European exposure to mercury cell production
